The six part information system in the guide, designed by Forestry Commission Scotland in partnership with Scottish Natural Heritage and Paths for All, explains to the guide user how to provide key information about a path that gives the users, especially infrequent users, confidence to choose the path that suits their needs and abilities. The simple information system, which is based on consistent information about the path: name, waymarking, features of interest, surface, gradient, width and obstacles, a grade symbol, and distance and time, can be used to describe the path for everyday or leisure use. The information system was developed from detailed path attributes and user testing research.
